Home at the Dome”
2016 Football
By: Roy Pulfrey

You did it again, made it back to the Dome.
So I guess I’d better write you a poem.
First, let me acknowledge 2015.
Undefeated Champions, outstanding team.

A season like that is hard to repeat,
Loss of those seniors, big shoes need new feet.
But Raasch and his coaches did it again,
Came up with a team ready to win.

Kids need to step up, like Dylan Jones.
He had a great season while dealing with Crohn’s.
We had a great effort you have to mention,
Is the one put forth by Cody Jensen.

When you build a new line, you think of the names:
Fries, Zac and Erickson, James.
And Ryan Punt out on the end,
He can catch, block, and really defend.

Harley Gibbs creates an incredible clamor,
When he runs like a bull and hits like a hammer.
M Lar, a giant with soft, sure hand,
At receiver or safety, always part of our plans.

Lincoln Gibbs had a frustrating season.
Hamstring problems were the reason.
Attitude and work ethic made you a star,
You are why we made it so far.

Chance Olson never gave out any slack.
He took the team on his mighty young back.
Opponents had to develop a habit,
Of trying to catch an open field rabbit.

Don’t forget the kids on the sideline.
They worked hard and put in their time.
And we needed a Swede to help complete us,
So across the pond came Peter Fazekas.

Regular season only had one mar.
Pretty obvious we’re going to go far.
Leola/Frederick, the first playoff foe,
Fell to us quick, we were ready to go.

Across the state came the team from Wall,
Another opponent who soon took the fall.
Out to Harding, the miles seemed like a million.
They couldn’t stop Olson, next stop: Vermillion.

Took on Colome not as strong as we wished,
Gibb’s hamstrings, Punt’s injured wrist.
Battled them hard, did all we could do.
Came up short, but we’re still proud of you.

Thanks everyone for acting with class.
There’s more to football than run, kick and pass.
Cheering for you is ever so sweet,
When you act as a team with one heartbeat.
