“Bus Trip Musings and After Tournament Thought’s”
By: Roy Pulfrey

Basketball: It’s a trip. It’s a rush. It’s a journey,
You work all season with a goal of State Tourney.
Blisters and bruises and the coaches they shout,
“Run the play, move your feet, defense, box out!”
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
Sliding through winter from town to town.
You see lots of gyms and their lockers as well,
All have that same sweet signature smell.

Late school nights, clear skies or storm warning,
Homework and bed, get up in the morning.
After road games you know where we’ll be,
Any good place where the coaches eat free.

When you’re tucked in your bed all comfy and cozed,
Raasch’s mind still swirls with x’s and o’s.
If you’re willing to work and listen to him,
Just give your best effort; he’ll get you a win.

We have great players, you know what I mean?
Led by Kyle Johnson, a scoring machine.
And the other team’s scorer, whether big, strong, or quick,
Will always be guarded by our man Nick.

Running the point and doing it best,
Is a bundle of energy we all call Wes.
Beside him is Dalton, he’ll hound you all day,
Don’t leave him open, he’ll knock down a trey.

Scoring and Defense, Mike E. does it all,
Inside and outside, all over the floor.
And then there’s Block, you can’t stop this guy,
When he’s on the floor, sparks always fly.
If we’re needing a lift, coach knows what to do,
He looks down the bench and call on Drew.
And how ‘bout that freshman, always ready to go?
Cool, calm, collected: we know him as Bo.

Those victorious JV’s they just couldn’t lose.
Lots of good players from which to choose.
Some say it’s over, we’ll never be back,
Wait ‘till next year, we’ll see about that!

We got through the District with guts and poise,
Then prevailed against Rosholt, way to go boys.
Thank you cheerleaders, parents and fans,
Barnet Center became part of your plans.

The Hanson Beavers were an eager foe,
We had some jitters and started slow.
We soon caught up and led most the way,
Block doused their rally with a late game trey.

Viborg-Hurley was the second night,
We played them strong, an outstanding fight.
A furious battle right from the toss,
It was hard to swallow a one-point loss.

Sully Buttes was our grand finale,
We slowly caught fire like a hot tamale.
But true to form we let ‘em back in,
We had to rally, Bo sealed the win.

Our all-tourney reps were Kyle and Nick,
Outstanding players, and easy pick.
Contributions and hustle from all the rest,
Made Raasch’s team a great success.

We didn’t go to say we were there,
We wanted a trophy for our home lair.
We got third play and put on a show,
Way to go Lions, way to go!
